An antique wall sconce built around a hand-painted ceramic tile from Portugal, decorated in cobalt blue with a climbing floral and leaf motif on a warm white ground. The iron arm curves out from the lower edge of the tile and holds a single taper, the metal dark and slightly rustic against the delicacy of the painted ceramic.

The painted tile is the thing here. The brushwork is loose and confident, flowers and foliage filling the surface with the kind of easy rhythm that comes from a practiced hand. The ceramic shows light crazing and age spotting to the glaze, both earned over a long time. The iron hardware is solid and well-attached.

Hangs from a single bracket at the top. Ready to go on a wall.
