A vintage hand carved hardwood bird sculpture, carved from a single piece of dark wood with an angular block base emerging from the same material. The bird faces upward with a hooked beak and wings partially spread, the body polished smooth through handling while the neck and feather detail retain the marks of the carving tool. The wood is deep brown throughout, nearly black in the recesses, with a warmth that comes from age and use rather than finish.

The base is left rougher and more angular than the bird above it, a deliberate contrast that makes the carved form read clearly against the support. The piece reads equally well from both sides. In excellent condition, carved from a single piece with no cracks or repairs. There is only one.
